Amateur Radio Is . . .

A Public Service . . .

When all other forms of communication are down, ham radio is there to fill the gap. When tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes and other natural disasters strike, telephone and cell phone services are usually disrupted, and hams are often the only communication available.

Educational . . .

Students interested in a career is STEM --- science, technology, engineering, math -- will find that earning a ham license gives them a head start on their technical educations. Ham radio also widens horizons by introducing hams to people in other states and other countries.

Fraternal . . .

Ham radio is a worldwide fraternity, and hams love to meet other hams. You'll fnd a friendly face whereever you go.

And Lots of Fun . . .

Amateur radio operators engage in all sorts of fun activities: contests, field day, fox hunts, rag chews, etc.
